Here's what students have had to say:
Dr. Shannon did an excellent job in the classroom. It was evident that she genuinely cares about the material, and she kept the class engaged throughout the semester. Her goal has been to help us grow as writers and as intellectuals, and she certainly succeeded. Just based on the quality of discussion from the beginning of the semester to the end, one can tell how well she facilitates such growth and understanding. Meeting with her outside of class was delightful as well - she truly cares for and about her students, and it was a pleasure to take this class.
Dr. Shannon is incredible at what she does. She makes lectures interesting and encourages class discussion. She has a genuine interest in the subject that makes class enjoyable; I've learned so much from her this semester.
I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of this course. The material was both challenging and intriguing. The writing assignments truly improved my writing skills. Dr. Shannon is a phenomenal instructor in her method of teaching as well as her knowledge of the materials. I would recommend this class to every liberal arts major.
Professor Shannon is one of the best teachers I have had at UGA. She is knowledgeable, interesting, and most importantly she truly cares for her students. I was having a really difficult time at the beginning of this semester and after missing a couple of classes, Shannon e-mailed me to make sure everything was okay. She wasn't condescending or judgmental about why I was not present, she was legitimately concerned.
Dr. Shannon is probably one of the best teachers I've had so far at UGA, and I have so many wonderful things to say about her…Take this class with Dr. Shannon. She is amazing. There is literally a spot in heaven with her name on it. And I'm not even religious.
Hands down: best class I had at UGA. This class challenged me to think in many different ways and it has impacted me in a major way. I would recommend this class to anyone attending UGA in any major.
LOVE this teacher!!!!! She is how teachers should be. Cares about the students, goes above and beyond to do anything she can to help utilize the education and ACTUALLY learn rather than just lecture and test... She is definitely a genuine teacher!
Having Dr. Shannon for Criminology this semester has been an amazing experience. Among one of the best professors I have ever had, she is a hero and a scholar. My shot at building a career on the information about criminological theory is perhaps much better because of how good of a teacher she is…True to form, she believes her students are worth more than anyone bargained for. On the matter of her teaching methods and ability to successfully impart knowledge on her students, her arguments are succinct and persuasive. No doubt, she is non-stop. I can only say of Dr. Shannon, "Awesome!! Wow!!"
This was hands down my favorite class at the University of Georgia.
Dr. Shannon is a wonderful teacher that deserves nothing, but praise from the academic world.
I have waited all semester to write this evaluation and I'll explain, briefly, why. In the midst of major requirements and general electives, students are often forced to take some classes that either don't really interest them or interest them only a bit. With Shannon's criminology class, not only was I interested but my outlook and perspective on crime and people deemed "criminals" was CHANGED. There are few classes we experience that actually impact our mindset in a way where we never see something the same again and Criminology was one of them. 10/10 would recommend y'all give her tenure.
